Elafonisi Beach is a true treasure on the southwestern side of Crete, only 5km away from the southwesternmost end of the island. It is famous for its unique pink sand, whose color was created by the thousands of tiny parts of shattered seashells. Its dazzling turquoise waters are truly magical, and the fact that they’re warm and shallow during the summer makes them perfectly suitable for children.

Balos in Chania is one of the most famous and mesmerizing beaches in Greece. It’s a lagoon located 53 km from Chania Town, on the west side of the Gramvoussa cape. Its white sand and turquoise waters glistening under the sun create a scenery that truly resembles a painting. The sea is not very deep, and the waters are warm, making it suitable for children and the elderly. The beach is semi-organized, as it provides umbrellas, chaises, and a small canteen, but no facilities like changing rooms and showers.

Falassarna is a beautiful, well-known beach in Crete. Its crystal turquoise and greenish waters and white and sand compose a picturesque landscape and create an overall magical experience. It is located at Gramvoussa,15 km from Kissamos, and its coastline is 3 km long. It is separated into 5 beaches, divided by rocks or dunes, with two out of the five gathering the largest crowds. Additionally, the many different parts of the coast have been given various names by the locals, such as Bourouni, Kalami and Agia Paraskevi.

On the western side of Crete, near Balos Beach, there are two remote uninhabited islets: Agria (Wild) and Imeri (Tame) Gramvousa. Out of the two, the latter is famous for its gorgeous beach, the carcass of a shipwrecked boat, and its impressive medieval castle.

Tamam offers a mix of traditional Cretan and Mediterranean dishes with a creative twist. Highlights include their slow-cooked lamb with rosemary, fresh seafood dishes, and an assortment of mezze.

The exquisite monuments, along with the restored centuries-old buildings, create a one-of-a-kind setting that clearly belongs to everyone’s bucket list. The iconic landmark of Chania, the Venetian Harbor clearly shows the grave importance of the city during the Venetian era of Crete (1204 – 1669). The Venetian architectural legacy is so fine and well-built that it exudes charm and unique character, adding value to the harbor, to this day.

The graves of the historical Venizelos family are found on a hilltop where it is ironically one of the most popular spots in the city to enjoy panoramic views of Chania and breathtaking sunsets. The locations is only a few kilometers away from the city center, to the east on the way to Akrotiri and the airport Ioannis Daskalogiannis.

Samaria Gorge, located in Crete’s White Mountains, is one of Europe’s longest gorges, stretching 16 kilometers through stunning cliffs and lush vegetation. The hike, starting from Xyloskalo and ending at Agia Roumeli, offers a scenic journey featuring ancient trees, wildflowers, and the famous “Iron Gates,” a narrow passage flanked by towering cliffs. Rich in history and wildlife, the gorge also shelters the rare Cretan goat (kri-kri). Open from May to October, it’s a popular adventure for nature lovers and hikers.

The Chania Lighthouse, located at the Venetian Harbor in Chania, Crete, is one of the oldest in the world. Built in the 16th century by the Venetians and later modified by the Egyptians and Ottomans, it blends various architectural styles. Standing at 21 meters, it offers stunning views of the harbor and the sea. While visitors can’t enter, the lighthouse is a popular symbol of Chania’s rich history and is especially picturesque at sunset.
